Machine Vision Software

Software for machine Vision was traditionally the preserve of the software developer. However the market wants something that can be programmed by Factory floor Engineers. Hence the constant drive to develop better and simpler interfaces to make the products more appealing. Unfortunately for now, simple interfaces for Vision systems are still restricted to Smart cameras.
For more complex systems the User typically uses an SDK from one of the large Imaging companies like Matrox or Halcon. These companies write algorithms for most of the common Imaging functions from basic filters to complex image analysis techniques like edge and shape detection. The programmer then simply calls these functions in their program.
In the past they would have had to write their own software but most of these are now available off the shelf. Distribution is managed by a sophisticated licensing system where the user pays per tool used. Obviously the more complex the tool the higher the price of the license.

VisionPro

It's difficult to get an independent observers  review of the SDKs from the different OEMS. So the text is somewhat slanted by the manufacturer. It's really up to the user to download a trial version and see for themselves. Normally they come with a 30 evaluation license.

VisionPro has been set free. Now you can get the worlds top vision software with its robust tool library no matter what camera or frame grabber you use. That means all applications benefit from this broad-based, industrial-grade tool set from Cognex.

  • Proven in more than 500,000 installations worldwide, the VisionPro tool library spans all vision needs  from geometric object location and inspection to identification and measurement.
  • Combined with flexible and powerful PC-based development, VisionPro makes it faster than ever to create and deploy solutions for the most challenging machine vision applications.

Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) is a comprehensive collection of software tools for developing industrial imaging applications. MIL includes tools for every step in the process: from application feasibility, to prototyping, through to development and ultimately deployment.

The toolkit features interactive software and programming functions for image capture, processing, analysis, annotation, display and archiving. These tools are designed to enhance productivity, thereby reducing the time and effort required to bring your solution to market.

Image capture, processing and analysis operations have the accuracy and robustness needed to tackle the most demanding applications. These operations are also carefully optimized for speed to address the severe time constraints encountered in many applications.
